Chesapeake- Deacon Damon Robinson led a remarkable life filled with faith, service, and love for his community. Born on June 30, 1932, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Henry and Dollie Robinson, he received his education in Charleston before joining the United States Army after high school. Damon later moved to Philadelphia, where he met Carrie Baldwin, the love of his life. They married in August 1958 at the historic Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church, and from their
union came two daughters, Monica and Elaine.
Deacon Robinson’s career spanned decades, including over twenty-five years of service with the
City of Philadelphia, alongside his employment at General Electric. Following retirement, he and
Carrie relocated to Chesapeake, Virginia, where they became active members of New Galilee
Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Anderson O. Foreman, Jr. in 1995. Deacon Robinson demonstrated his deep faith and dedication through several key roles: serving as Vice Chairman of the Deacons Ministry, participating in the Male Chorus, and engaging with the Autumn Care Nursing Home Outreach ministry. He was also a charter member of both the Lighthouse Ministry and the Golden Heirs Senior Club. Known for faithfully visiting the sick and shut-in, he additionally contributed to the upkeep of the second church property. His commitment to service and community left a lasting impact within the congregation and beyond.
Known for his infectious laughter, Deacon Robinson was cherished for his storytelling and his
skill at hosting cookouts where he delighted guests with his famous bar-b-que ribs. His faith was
central to his life, evident in his favorite song "I Will Trust in the Lord," which he often led
during church services. He was a source of encouragement, always sharing his love for God and
his pastor, Rev. Anderson O. Forman, Jr., and inviting others to experience the warmth of their
church community.
On Sunday, July 21st, at the age of 92, Deacon Damon Robinson was called home, leaving
behind a legacy of faith, service, and joyous fellowship. His life touched many, and his memory
will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
