Chesapeake- On Saturday, October 5, 2024, our beloved husband and father, Garland Benjamin Williams went home to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by family.

He was born on August 11,1947, in Norfolk County, VA to the late Benjamin Williams and Elizabeth Wilson Williams. Garland was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School and pursued higher education at Norfolk State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree.

He is a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Verizon after 37 years o
employment.

Garland gave his life to Christ at his family church, St. James AME church in Berkley, VA. He later became a faithful member of Calvary Evangelical Baptist Church for over 30 years.Throughout the years Garland faithfully served as a deacon, Sunday school leader andteacher, and many remember him as their New Members’ class teacher. He also taught in Angelos Bible College. He was passionate about teaching and sharing the gospel of Christ.

As part of the missions’ ministry, he enjoyed going out to share the gospel in the community and overseas including Africa and the Philippines.

Garland was preceded in death by his older sister, Carlene A. Wilson. He leaves to cherish
his memories, his loving wife of 54 years Gloria N. Williams; three children, Glenda L.Williams, Garland Benjamin Williams, Jr. (Zakiya), and Ginika E. Williams; two grandchildren, Adrienne W. Pulley (Jonathan) and Alexis M. Williams; three aunts Shirley Wilson, Barbara U. Walker (Bill), and Rebecca Williams Brown; and a host of family and Friends.

A funeral service will take place 11:00am Monday; October 14, 2024 at Calvary Evangelical Baptist Church; 205 Gust Ln, Portsmouth, VA 23701. Visitation will be 2-4pm Sunday; October 13, 2024 at Fitchett-Mann funeral services; 1146 Rodgers St., Chesapeake VA, 23334.
