Chesapeake-Maryann Pickett, a devoted mother, cherished friend and a beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully at Chesapeake General Hospital on Saturday; October 5, 2024 at the age of 72. She was born on May 14, 1952 in Neptune, NJ to the late Gracine Hamlett Torian and the late Theodore Roosevelt Torian.

Maryann lived a life defined by kindness, resilience and compssion. Her parents instilled in her values of love, hard work and fait. She spent her life giving to others, always offering a helping hand to those in need and inspiring all who knew her with her generosity and spirit.

Maryann was a devoted mother to her daughters Latisha Monique Pickett and Carla Michelle Pickett and a loving grandmother to Arianne Dennis. Her family was the center of her world. She will be remember for her unwavering support, laughter, jokes and endless wisdom.

Maryann worked as a SPC Tech at Jersey Shore Medical Center where she made a lasting impact on her colleagues and clients alike. Outside of work she was passionate about increasing her knowledge. She would read anything she found interest in. She received a certificate in forensic science at the age of 68 with high honors. She loved to eat seafood and fruit. Her favorite color was yellow/gold.

She is survived by a brother Wally Torian; two sisters: Connie Jacquelyn Torian Whittaker and Bonnie Tates who will forever cherish her memory and honor the legacy she leaves behind.

Maryann Pickett’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was a testament to the power of love and her absence will be deeply felt.

A funeral service will held 1:00pm Saturday; October 19, 2024 at St. Stephens Christian Church; 128 Welch Lane; Chesapeake, VA 23324. Viewing will be 1 hour prior to service only. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery; Norfolk, VA.
