Obituary For Robert Lee Brickhouse

Chesapeake- “For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a
good fight. I have finished my course; I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4: 6-7.

Son, Brother, Husband, Father and Grandfather- A man who loved well and was well loved.

Robert L. Brickhouse son of the late Mary Brickhouse and John Jackson was born on October 19, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia. He peacefully transitioned to his
heavenly home and was given his wings on March 2, 2024.

Robert, affectionately known to family and friends as “Brickhouse” possessed a larger-than-life personality
complimented by an infectious smile. He received his primary education and training from the Norfolk Public Schools System. Among the many gifts and passions he had, one of them was working with his hands. His discipline and hard work led to his career at the Ford Motor Company where he retired with 30 years of distinguished service as an Inspector. He also held various positions with for the City of Chesapeake and was devoted to the community.

On June 30, 2017, he married the love of his life, Gwendolyn Brickhouse. They were lifetime friends for over 20 years that became lovers. He was a loyal and loving husband. Everyone loved “Brickhouse” who had his own brand of that special combination of strength and gentleness. As a charismatic person, Brickhouse enjoyed life. He loved his cars, he enjoyed washing his cars until the paint came off, dressing sharp (you could tell by his cap collection) and keeping his yard in pristine condition. Mostly he loved to dance. He was a dancing machine. You could catch him often doing his two step and moves in the kitchen, on the dance floor or with his Queen Gwen.

Laughter and love always filled the air when he was around. He loved singing and listening to the “oldies
but goodies”. The special connection he had with his “Boss Lady”, his granddaughter Tiana, he described as his best accomplishment. They both spoiled each other. Brickhouse will be remembered for his wit and his generosity, as well of his habit of having the best appetite for his wife’s potato salad. Everyone that new him will sincerely miss his stories, his smile and love.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Gwendolyn Spence-Brickhouse; two daughters: Toni L. Spence and Courtney Ruiz; one son, Tavon Spence (Courtney); five grandchildren: Tiana Medley, Janiya Taylor, Malia and Jeremiah Ruiz and Keeshawn
Faltz Jr.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11am Saturday; March 16, 2024 at Fitchett-Mann Funeral Services; 1146 Rodgers Street; Chesapeake, VA 23324. Viewing will be 1 hour prior to service only. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park; Chesapeake, VA
