Obituary For Roosevelt McKinley Everett

Chesapeake-On the early morning of April 28, 2024, Roosevelt McKinley Everett (also known as Moe,
McKinley, Big Moe, and Bird) was called to enter his eternal resting place at the age of 76. He was the son of the late Willie and Nannie Rogers, and Eugene Everett. He was born on August 12, 1947 in Franklin, VA.

McKinley grew up in South Norfolk, VA and graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1967. On December 9, 1967, McKinley was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Carolyn Spruill Everett. From that union they had one daughter, Shawn. McKinley retired from Chesapeake Hardwood (formally Weyerhaeuser) in 2000. After his retirement, he began working for the Chesapeake Police Department as a crossing guard, which
he really enjoyed. He was a devoted family man who loved his family unconditionally. Whenever he was called upon, he showed up. No task was too big or small.

McKinley's passion was travelling, tailgating at Norfolk State University home games, and cooking. He could be found in the kitchen experimenting with different herbs and spices. This experimenting led to the famous "Moe Burgers" that were a staple at all of Norfolk State's tailgates.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Nannie Rogers, and Eugene Everett. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Carolyn Everett of 56 years; his daughter Shawn Gunn (Darryl) of Chesapeake, VA; two grandchildren Darryl Gunn, Jr. and Kameron Gunn; and a host cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, inlaws, and friends.

A funeral service will be held 9am Thursday; May 2, 2024 at First Baptist Church West Munden; Chesapeake, VA. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park; Chesapeake, VA. Viewing will be 4-6pm Wednesday at Fitchett-Mann FS; 1821 E. Liberty Street; Chesapeake, VA 23324
